Ipod Downgrade!!!

I have a 2nd Gen ipod touch and it has 3.1.1 software installed. it used to be on 2.2.1 so it has previously been below 3.0 but i can't downgrade to 3.0. when i try i put it in DFU mode and shift + restore and select the 3.0 firmware (i am positive it is the right firmware) i have also tried downgrading to 2.2.1 and custom firware that i created through itunes none work all of them come up saying that an error has occured. i have also tried using itunes 8 and 9.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! very frustrated over this for a while now this is my last resort.

I do not believe that there is a way to downgrade the iPod firmware. It's a one way process.
