Question How to search for oversized Items?

Hey Guys...I'm trying to search for large files and folders that might be taken space on my Mac. Is there a way or an application that will sort all files from my HDD by size??

Re: How to search for oversized Items?

I do believe that there is, but it's a couple of years since I've seen it, and can't remember it's name or how much it is. But you can sort the Finder by size. Open a winder and then goto View>as List. Then goto View>Show View Options and make sure that Size and Calculate all sizes are checked. Now back to the Finder window, click on the column titles Size and it will sort by size. To really see everything in one list, click the triangle to the left of a folder icon and it will list the folder's contents below the folder name. It will sort by the folder first, and the contents within the folder under the folder.

Re: How to search for oversized Items?

Yes. I understand this. but what I'm actually trying to do is (example) search for the largest file on my Mac, not on a specific folder.

Re: How to search for oversized Items?

In the Finder, goto File>Find... and in the window that pops up, there will be some options. Mine is default of Kind in the pull down menu. Click that and select Other... In the list of things, scroll down and find Size, and put a check next to it and click OK, now you can search based on size. I just did a search for files over 500MB, and got 97 results. This will search in most everything except the System, Library, and other user folders.
