Why this message at itunes start up?

When I start iTunes I get a message saying: "The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." I have downloaded and reinstalled iTunes and I still get the message. Do I need to uninstall the other CD burning software?

Re: Why this message at itunes start up?

I have actually gotten rid of the message by reinstalling the GEAR drivers but I am still unable to use the backup feature. I open the backup to disk utility, click on back up entire library and when I click "backup" nothing happens and nothing happend when I click "cancel" either. It is totally non responsive.

You need to post in the Windows Xp forum, not the Mac forum, as this is a problem with Windows.

Re: Why this message at itunes start up?

This forum is problems for Mac hardware and software on the Mac platform, not Apple software, hence why it's the Mac forum, not Apple forum.

Besides, you are having a registry error, and that is a Windows issue, and has nothing to do with iTunes. For some reason, your registry is not being updated as it should be when iTunes installs, and that is due to the iTunes installer not having the permissions it needs from Windows to make the change, or some other burning software you have installed is keeping those registry entires to itself. Windows is notorious for having errors with multiple burning software packages installed at once. You need to goto the Windows section and ask them for help as they may know how to get all the burning software you have installed to share correctly with a registry edit.

Re: Why this message at itunes start up?

I have done this with earlier versions of iTunes. I install a new version and it doesn't work. That makes this a problem with Windows?

Re: Why this message at itunes start up?

Regardless, it is a problem unique to Windows, and this forum is for Apple hardware and running software on that hardware in the Apple OS. I am just trying to get you the help you need. The people that look in this part of the forum are able to help with Mac problems, not Windows, and software runs differently under the two OSes.
