New HP Printer Crashes older Mac Software

Ever since I installed software for an HP Photosmart C4280 printer, I cannot open PS 7.0 (it crashes upon opening) or Appleworks 6.0 (it too crashes upon opening). I can uninstall the HP software and get Appleworks to open but my PS 7.0 is toast even after reinstall. I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11. Any ideas??? Thanks

Re: New HP Printer Crashes older Mac Software

Which parts of the software did you install, the whole package, or just the device drivers? If you did the whole package, then most likely it installed things that are fighting with the other software. Try just installing the driver only. As for getting PS 7.0 to work again, I'm not sure what to say. Have you tried reinstalling it?

Re: New HP Printer Crashes older Mac Software

Thanks for the reply sinclair_tm!

I initially installed the entire HP software package as there was no option on the CD's Installer for a custom install. After uninstalling the package, I just "added a printer" in the Mac preferences window which has the Mac look for the required drivers. I can now print and use Appleworks however, I cannot use the HP scanning software as it is not installed.

I suspect the scanning software to be the culprit as those usually use twain functions (of which I know absolutely nothing about) and that seems to be where PS 7.0 crashes.

Perhaps the scan software is installing something that is not uninstalled when I perform that function????

Re: New HP Printer Crashes older Mac Software

I forgot to mention, yes, I did reinstall PS7.0 after uninstalling the HP software at no avail. Thanks!

Yes, Twain things can be picky. Unfortunately, I know nothing about them as well. Sounds like this is now a matter for you to contact HP and Adobe about to see if they know of this conflict, and maybe even the resolution.
