usb issue with imac

i am recently having a problem with usb 1. when a external drive is not ejected first it will not show up as a desk top icon the o.s does indecate that it is there restarting the computer removing the drive trunig the drive off does not work 2 now i am lossing the wireless mouse and the keyboard at times the mouse more frequently i have changed batteries both the mouse and key board ahre the smae port and are not apple pporducts it is a locgtech
