mac osx internet problems

I have an older mac,it's running software version 10-4-11.It has 512MB mem.If i want to go to more than two web pages,it locks up.To cancel safari,I,have to force quit.I am using DSL for internet access.

Any advice on how to keep ole faithful up and chugging along?

Is everything up to date? Also, are you making sure that you have 5Gig free on the hard drive? Have you also tried using Firefox? You might also need to get more RAM. 512MB is really low for 10.4, you should have at least 1gig.

trouble began after we deleted firefox. firefox was needed for an online transaction,and was not needed anymore,so we deleted it.we prefer safari for web.

If you just dragged the Firefox icon to the trash and then emptied the trash can, it shouldn't of caused this. I think you have more problems. How did you delete it?
