[SOLVED] FAT External HD (Deleting Files)

I recently changed over to Mac and bought an external HD which I formatted to FAT so it could be read on Windows and OSX.

However, I noticed that when I delete a file off of it, it doesn't recover that empty space, but stays the same. Is there a way to really delete files from the FAT formatted drive for good?

Thank you in advance.

Re: FAT External HD (Deleting Files)

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

it keeps track when in the recycle bin apparently so you have to go in to clean the free space.

You have to tell the Mac to empty the trash before the drive space shows up.
