When you goto About this Mac from the Apple menu, how much RAM does it list?

Always order RAM from Crucial.com.

If the RAM isn't the exact right kind it shouldn't even boot into the OS.
So if you get that far- it's working right.

I've never dealt with the company you ordered from, and you didn't specify what brand RAM you bought, but maybe they sent the wrong size RAM stick or something?

How much RAM did you have prior to ordering the 1gb stick?

Gotcha. I thought I had never been to that site, but I have visited it recently actually.
I've been ordering from Crucial as advised by our old IT vendor for over 5 years.

Never had a problem with a single stick, and we've ordered dozens and dozens for our business (we have about 30 computers currently)

Anyway, if you havent already- take the RAM out and read the sticker to make sure they sent you the right part.

Also- go to Crucial.com and go through the steps to find supported RAM for your laptop and see if it matches up.

IMO- Crucial is by far the best place to go for RAM.

Hope you get it figured out... slow computers suck.

Re: new RAM doesn't seem to be working

Crucial is good, as long as it's not a Mac (I've known too many Mac owners have issues with their RAM. OWC on the other hand is Mac only, and they work hard to make loyal customers.). Now it seems that either the stick of RAM you got is bad, or the RAM slot on the iBook is bad. First thing to try though is to take the RAM back out and then put it back in again, making sure that you got it in good and tight. If you're lucky, then that was it. I've done that several times. If it still doesn't show, then you call up OWC and talk to their customer service. Make sure to have a copy of your order there, as they will ask for some information off of it. Explain to them that you got this from them and installed it, twice, and it didn't show up. I'm sure they will give you a RMA number and have you ship it back, and as soon as they get it, they will ship you a new one. I have had to do this myself once. They were really friendly and shipped it back quickly. Now if it still doesn't show up, then I'd say your iBook is bad, at which point it'll cost more to repair then it's worth. I've been in that boat too. I had to go and get a new Macbook (I needed a laptop for school.). Good luck.

That's odd. I was told by an Apple rep to use Crucial as well.
Oh well to each their own.
I have crucial memory in both of my Macs and both run great.

Out of curiosity, what problems did the people you know have?
Was it a compatibility issue that happened right off the bat, or down the road it having problems?

Sorry iammcmasta, not trying to hijack your thread, was just curious.

Both, as well as finding out they were over charged. Saw an ad that listed a web address to goto to get the "best price" only to find out that if they had gone to the main site they would of gotten the same RAM cheaper. Hijack is now over.
