Computer won't burn DVD's

I have a macbook pro and have recently had trouble burning DVD's. I can burn photos and data fine through the Finder, but whenever I try to burn an actual movie DVD it fails. I've tried using Toast Titanium and i always get a medium drive error, and i've tried using iDVD and it never finishes. It will be in the burning stage and it will say done, but the project screen will still be up like it is still burning and the DVD will be kicked out of the drive. When I put the DVD back in my computer it tells me it's blank.

i am trying to make a DVD of concert videos for a friend for christmas, and i just can't get it to work. The only thing I can think of is that there isn't enough space on my computer to do it, but i have 75 free GBs. the DVD I want to burn contains 57 mins of movies.

and the DVD's I am using are 4.7GB if that makes any difference. I've made DVD's in iDVD before, but it's probably been about a year. I just don't get why my drive won't burn DVDs, but it will burn pictures and data. Thanks to anyone who can help! :)

oh, and my computer is up to date with software updates too.
