I've thrown my address book away
I know this is really stupid, but I've just used a memory stick to copy over my address book from my old G4 to the new iMac. And yes I replaced the one with the other, intending to keep all my contacts.
Now it's saying I can't use this Address Book with Leopard. Feel such a pratt. Felt sure there wouldn't be problems. ![]() |

Re: I've thrown my address book away
The problem is that they are different versions of the app and thus different databases. The best thing to do is from the old one is to export your contacts from the file menu and then copy that to your thumb drive. Once on the new Mac drag the file to the icon on the address book and it will then import all the contacts.

Re: I've thrown my address book away
Hey thanks for that. Unfortunately it's not letting me do this as the error message just comes up about it being the wrong version. I might go back to the store with my memory stick and ask if I can lift a copy...
Can't see them playing ball some how. Tried finding a free download online but not available anywhere. I can maybe ask a friend to make a copy, delete names and send it to me. Thanks for the reply though STM. |

Re: I've thrown my address book away
if you still have the old address book (as in the export, not all the vcards) you can go to the Address Book menu, and click on import, then import address book, then it will give you a bunch of options, and when you think you'd choose the last option, you want to choose the second last option (Sorry don't remember what the options are, I'm French, so my mac was in french, lol)

Re: I've thrown my address book away
look on your leopard disc for the address book installation. or get the application from somebody elses computer if they're using leopard like you. and you dont have to delete the names. the application keeps the contacts and the application seperate.

Re: I've thrown my address book away
Got it sorted eventually. I wanted to fix it so the old Mac and the new one were networked so I could transfer work files from one to the other. The chap who fixed it did so via his web portal (I think) ie remotely. While he was doing this, he did a copy of his address book, deleted the names and just dropped the application on my system. He's really excellent. Is it ok to give him a plug?
http://macwiz.co.uk Really weird watching someone else work do things on your machine. BTW after failing with a FireWire connection between the two machines, it turned out they were talking to each other wirelessly behind my back, without telling me. Little buggers. |
