Motherboard swap

Okay so seeings as the processor in the ibook G3 i have is soldered to the board i had the bright idea to just buy a newer motherboard with higher frequency proscessor on it. But the highest frequency for the G3 ever made was 900 Mhz. The G4 was the one that broke 1Ghz, so i was wondering how compatible the G4 motherbord was with a G3 shell cuz ive never been able to tear a G4 apart. So to summarize: would a G4 motherboard fit into a G3 shell?

Re: Motherboard swap

Well, that is a good question, I'm not 100% sure, but I would have to say no. There are several architectural differences between the computers that I would say that they are not. Plus they have different power requirements, and I believe that the ports have been shuffled around. I'm not even sure that you can put a faster G3 motherboard in it. This is something that would require a bit of research.

Re: Motherboard swap

You can put iBook G4 board in your G3 iBook, however it is not a simple board swap. Below are parts you will need to get to do the swap.

Frame
Heatsink
Fan
Hard drive mounting brackets & cable
Optical drive, brackets, and cable
Top Case
Airport card
LVDS cable
Inverter cable
Bottom Case

In the end, only your LCD panel, inverter, display plastics & hinge, airport antenna, battery, hard drive, and keyboard will be reusable.
