Help with flash memory

how do you delete files from a flash memory? I have a mac os x. I tried sending it to trash, the icon is gone but the memory is still full.

Re: Help with flash memory

Did you right (control) click on the trash icon and select empty trash? Simply dragging something to the trash can will not delete it, just like in Windows, you have to tell it to finish the job.

Re: Help with flash memory

I emptied the trash. It still shows 1.62GB used on my flash drive.
When I deleted it from the flash drive I right clicked on the icon in flash and select "move to trash" the icon is gone but the memory is still in use. If I drag something from the flash to the desk top it copies to the desk top and stays in the flash. I don't understang this flash drive.

Re: Help with flash memory

Well, the flash is treated just like a floppy, or hard drive. When you move the icon to the Desktop, you are copying the file from the flash to the hard drive of the Mac. When you tell it to move something to the trash, it doesn't delete it, just moves it there. Look at the trash can icon, if it looks like there is paper in it, then the file is still on the flash. Click on the Finder menu in the upper left of the screen, and select Empty Trash. Once the can looks like it's empty, then the file is deleted.

Re: Help with flash memory

I thought you have to remount the drive to get the available space to change - maybe not... I did not know it was calculated in real-time...
