Mac Crashing When Ethernet Is Connected
My Mac keeps freezing every time I get online with it. It lets me open Safari, but then after I surf for about 10 minutes or so the entire computer just freezes up. Furthermore, this freezing happens even when the computer is just plugged into the internet at all, whether I am running Safari or not.
If I unplug my ethernet cable completely the Mac will operate just fine -- no freezing. Any ideas? |

Re: Mac Crashing When Ethernet Is Connected
I'd say that your ethernet port is bad, or the drivers. The only way to be sure is to do a fresh install of the OS and see if it still freezes. If it does, the port is bad, if not, then the OS was bad.

Re: Mac Crashing When Ethernet Is Connected
What versio of mac os x do you have?
First see if you get the same result in another user and then try another ethernet cord. This will tell you if the problem is user specific or not. Or if you just have a bad ethernet cable. Next, there is a folder call "SystemConfiguration" that you can drag to the trash. I can remember precisely which one but if you can drag it to the trash it's the right one. I think it's located in /System/Library/SystemConfiguration /System/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration /User/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration. If you find one in all those locations try to delete it, it don't matter that you delte it casue is just network settings. After this back up all data, then boot to mac OS X install disc and do an archive and install first (preserving users and settings). If archive and install (preserving users and settings) does not work try Archive and install (without preserving users and settings). IF that does not work then try the erase and install. LOOK AT THESE ARTICLES VERY CLOSELY YOU MAY JUST NEED TO DO A REPAIR WITH DISK UTILITY... http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710 http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417 |
