Vertical streaking in scanned image

I have a G4 running on OSx using the ratoc system adapter to connect the scsi scanner port with the computer firewire port. I'm using Silverfast software without any problem. The setup worked perfectly fine for several months. Then one day there were vertical streaks running down the entire scan area. Perfectly spaced streaks in rows of lighter and darker. Does anyone at all know what causes this and if there's a fix for it?

And you have ruled out there being anything on the glass or the image sensor on the scanner?
