Re: no instructions & not real good at this !!!
Sounds like you need to reinstall the OS on it. The folder with the house icon is the current user's home folder, which is in the users folder on the hard drive. Applications are in the folder called Applications. So make sure you are looking in the correct folder. If this is truly the Application folder, you need to wipe the hard drive and reinstall everything to get it back to as it should be.

Re: no instructions & not real good at this !!!
What version of OS X are you running? (click on the apple in the upper left corner and choose "about this mac") I will assume you are on at least 10.4.x for my suggestions.
Click on your desktop so that the word "Finder" is in the upper left corner next to your apple. Then press apple-shift-A and that will take you to your applications folder. This is a short cut to using the GO drop down menu. The house is typically the icon for your home folder, similar to "My Documents" on Windows. IF the house icon is on your desktop, in the upper right corner, and says "Macintosh HD" under it, then you have a user issue that can be resolved another way. Other quick tips for newbies: - Under the apple menu, System Preferences is like control panel in Windows. In there you can use the User Accounts menu to add/remove accounts. Never delete the account you are using to log in with. Make a new account, log out, log in to that account, make sure you are happy with it, and then remove the old one. - To get a "right click", hold down the ctrl key then use your 1 button mouse or laptop track pad. |
