Apologies for what is probably a very generic problem.
I have an external Formac Hard drive which I have been using as the destination disc for Time Machine. I also have other info on there, probably about 180 GB worth in total. I transferred some files from my Macbook yesterday and they had transferred ok. However, after a restart the drive is not being recognised by my Powerbook. I can see it in Disc Utility but there are no options to repair available. I don't want to erase this disc. How can I solve this problem, or recover the data? Anybody that can offer me any hope?

Re: Formac Disc 250 not recognised on OS 10.5 Macbook pro
there should be a mount button at the top of the disk utility, what happens when you click on it after clicking the hard drive icon in the left pane?

The mount button is greyed out unfortunately. I've looked into Data Rescue. I think I'm going to have to retrieve all my files that way and invest in a new hard drive. Any further thoughts welcome though, thanks!

Re: Formac Disc 250 not recognised on OS 10.5 Macbook pro
Do you have access to another Mac to see if the drive is recognized there? This would be a quick way to tell if it's the drive specifically. Does the drive at least spin up when it's turned on (you can usually feel the drive spinning if you lightly put your hand on the case)?
Is the drive USB or Firewire? If it's USB, have you tried other USB storage devices (like a flash drive)? If it's firewire, have you tried other Firewire devices? You might run Disk Utility to repair permissions on your Mac's drive, just in case. Permissions issues can cause strange problems.

Re: Formac Disc 250 not recognised on OS 10.5 Macbook pro
Hi! I've checked out your suggestions and repaired permissions. My laptop recognises a flash drive. I've tried the malfunctioning drive on another machine and it isn't recognised. It is running though, as Data Rescue can scan it, identify and retrieve files. Thanks for your suggestions though, I think I'm just going to have to let it go :-)
