Question Crashing at Random

Hello all,

The MAC in question is a iMAC 5.1?
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz
3GB RAM
OSX 10.4

Fairly often it is experiencing Panics or crashing "windows blue screen" type messages.

This does not appear to happen in any particular program and has been reported that it crashed almost as soon as the user logged in at times as well.

We tried running Tech Tool Pro and all tests came out as passed.

Below is a crash log that was generated.
Code:

Re: Crashing at Random

We just have a mouse and keyboard plugged into the back.

I believe the user does also have an ipod or similar plugged in some time to time but not all the time.

Re: Crashing at Random

well, the error seems to be related to the usb drivers some how. is there any different keyboards or mice that you could try to use for a while to see if the panics go away (which would mean that one or both are bad). also try plugging the mouse and keyboard in different ports (to see if you have a bad port). also, run the hardware test cd that came with the mac and see if it sees anything. if you get nothing from any of those, then the next thing i'd do is reinstall the os with the restore cds that came with it, in hopes thats its a corrupted file. if that doesn't fix it, then its time to take it back to apple for them to look at.

Re: Crashing at Random

Hmm.. okay well I plugged in a PC keyboard and mouse (still USB) which worked. Will test and see how that works out.

Thanks. I'll post back the results.

Re: Crashing at Random

Hello all,

Just wanted to update you and let you know that plugging in the PC keyboard/mouse seems to have rid the MAC of any further crashing.

Thanks a lot for all your help. :)

Re: Crashing at Random

well, it sounds like you have a bad keyboard and or mouse. you should be able to get them replaced by apple.
