Trashing Preferences

I know I can throw away Extentions and the machine will rewrite them on startup. Can I do that to Preferences? Norton says the Sound Preference is bad on a G3 I have running OS8 (don't say it). Also, as an aside, the same machine crashes when I go to the Chooser and try and load other machines on the network. I get around this by placing aliases on the machine from other machines which can connect to it.

Re: Trashing Preferences

no, no, no. do not throw away any extensions. they will not be rewritten on startup! they are the device drivers and other important parts of the os. the preferences are the things that will be rewritten on the 1st startup of the os or apps. it could be that the chooser is crashing because its missing some extensions. so all will be well if you trash the sound preferences, but to fix the chooser, you may have to do a reinstall.
