[SOLVED] How to retrieve lost date on an external harddisk?
Hi! I'm new on this forum, so my question may sound naïve, but I'd be very grateful if someone could help me out of this dilemma
What happened is..I was working on my laptop (OS: Mac OS X) with an external harddisk attached to it, when it suddenly crashed. So I removed the harddisk from it. When I restarted and reconnected the harddisk, the stored data was all GONE! The space was refilled to its original storage space :(( I really need that data back!! Its hard work of soou many years!! :S:S IS there no programme which could retrieve that data? I have a pc (OS: WIN XP) as well, so I could also use programmes running on WIN after connecting the HD to the pc.... Any suggestions??? I'm quite desperate

Re: How to retrieve lost date on an external harddisk?
with a mac, initialise means format, so thats a bad thing to do. goto your utility folder in the appication folder, and look for disk utility, open it and select your extrnal hard drive from the list on the left. now on the right side, find the tab named first aid. after clicking on it, click the button named repair disk at the bottom. if it finds any errors, run it again, and keep running it until it comes back fine. if it doesn't help bring the files back, then i don't know what to tell you but that you need to buy some data recovery software, and do not use the disk until you do.
