Computer to Tv???? pleeeease help!!!
Hi ! How are you, My name is Jonny and i just recently bought a 32 inch lcd screen with all the money i have saved up from work... one of tyhe main reasons i got it so big was becauyse i cant stand the look of my computer and i wanted a new monitor so i decided i might as well just buy a tv and use it as a monitor.. the problem was, i bought a VGA to component cable (VGA from my computer to component on my TV directly) and i spent 60 bucks... and the store wont refund it.. so im wondering.. now that i have no more money... is there anything i can do to make this setup work... i only have an IMAC G3, a 32 inch lcd screen with component. hdmi and s video inputs.. and a VGA to Component cable... PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! Thank you.

well, the problem is that you have a g3 imac. they have no video out. they were not made for it, so there is really nothing you can do. and if there was, the on board video can't push a screen that size. and if it could, it'd look really bad as it can't can't do more than 1024x768. looks like this is one thing you get to chock up to learning, aka ask before you spend the money.

reply to sinclair
Thanks for replying except that... the IMac G3 has VGA out and that there is in fact a way to do it that i just was told by crystallattice and i can in fact buy it here.... http://store.pcpowerzone.com/foenimtotvsc.html and that i did in fact ask the store clerk if it would work and he said yes and it turns out the cable was falty... so although i appreciate you replying to my question... i would appreciate it more if you understood what you were saying first. Because had i listened to you i really probably could have wasted a whole lot of money ....

are we talking about a g3 tower, or the all in one crt g3 imac? and how does this thing connect to your mac? vga or usb? it is true, there is a vga connector of some sort buried inside the crt g3 imac, and you have to take it apart to get to it, which isn't for the faint of heart, only for those familiar with working in crt monitors, which is why i didn't mention it, for safety reasons. that and the imacs built-in screen is connected to it. and again, 1024x768 is really going to look bad on a 32in screen. your icons will be pixelated, and about 2in square, depending on the native resolution of the screen. so given the info you gave, and drawing on the many years for macintosh experience i have (since 1992), i gave you the best answer.

ok, i stand corrected. there is a vga port for mirroring on the imac dvs, which are rare. but the apple docs still say that it will only do at most 1024x768, which i think will not look good on a 30+ screen. but rereading all your posts, i can tell you that the signal coming from the imac's vga port is incompatible with that large screen, which is why you get a flickery image. most screens that are 30+ in size are dual link dvi, and there is no way an imac can put out that kind of signal. now as for that other video box thingy, i've never seen one, so i'm not sure how well it will work. if you get it, please post and tell us how it does, incase anyone else wants to do as you did with their older computer and a bigger screen.
