free software to convert .ifo to .mov?

Can anyone suggest a good free converter to perform this duty?

I want to edit some movies but I can't open them in imovie because they are either .vob, .ifo, or . bup

ifo, bup and vop are dvd files

These are files I get on a dvd that I made of my family movies. I recorded them from tapes to a dvd on my dvd player. there are a gang of converters but I can't seem to find a free one for Mac. They all download as exe files.
You can see some examples on the following site: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/B...layer-ifo.html

I just want to cut a short section out of a video.

Thanks for your input.

Re: free software to convert .ifo to .mov?

I have the same question, however, I do know that those types of files seem to be only readble by Nero's Showtime which is retardly only available on PC as I know. So if anyone does know how to do what the original poster needs it would help me as well.

Re: free software to convert .ifo to .mov?

You do not need to do anything with the .ifo files . . they just tell the cd player where to find the files . . you want to decode the .vob files.

See this for more: http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1635

well then, with this new info, there are several mac apps that can convert home made dvd vob files to mov files. but one of the better ones (from what i've been told) is this.

Re: free software to convert .ifo to .mov?

iMovie will do it via Quicktime. Just open a new project, and make it a mp4 format, no as you add the .mov file, it'll convert it to mp4, and then you can tell iMovie to export the video as a mp4.
