Re: How may i dual boot for ubuntu and winxp?
There are a number of posts in this forum dealing with dual booting ubuntu and windows. There are a number of references to this site for how to do the dual boot: http://users.bigpond.net.au/hermanzone/.
You might want to read through the posts on dual booting in this forum to see what other recommendations you find. |

I followed hermanzone's "Ubuntu + NTFS" directions to dual-boot W2K & Ubuntu. Worked like a charm. Made a FAT32 partition that they can both share. You can't write to NTFS partitions from Linux w/out making a mess of things! Back up irreplaceable data 1st! There are no guarantees when you're doing brain surgery on your PC. Also, do some research on fstab. I had to type in one line to make Ubuntu recognize the FAT32 partition. This was a really simple operation as far as that sort of thing goes but a little scary if you've never done anything like that before. Gobs of posts on the Ubuntu Forums http://ubuntuforums.org/index.php regarding dual-boot. After the MaximumPC article a few months ago seems like there was a slug of people asking about dual-boot and other beginner's steps. Do you have an old PC you can practice with? I did my dual-boot on an old PC that had no valuable data, just a fresh copy of W2K. Not so nerve-wracking that way. |
