slax live CD- unable to start x

hi, i've searched the forums for a relevent thread and i can't seem to find any, so heres my problem: I put the disk in, everything loads fine, balh blah blah, and i log in and give the startx command .... i get the little x cursor, and the system crashes, and nothing happens, no matter how long i leave it. I tried using xconf before startx but this didn't help, i didn't even get the x cursor. I gave it the old ctrl+alt+backspace and i was told that "No matching device section for instance (BusID PCI :0:1:0) found, could not init font path element /usr/x11r6/libx11/fonts/CID/, removing from list"

as a n00b, this makes sod all sense to me, other than possibly theres something wrong with the PCI slot that the graphics card's plugged in to, or something like that

its a fairly old computer, i'm basically just wanting SLAX to squeeze an extra year or so out of it, specs are: 700MHz celeron (i know!), 320MB RAM, PCI geforce MX440

theres also integrated intel graphics on the motherboard but i really don't want to use that

RE: slax live CD- unable to start x

One possibility is that your slax live CD disk is only useful as a coaster. Did you md5sum the downloaded file before burning the disk and md5sum the disk after burning? It appears the disk was burned as an image file, else it shoudn't have gotten as far as it did.

The slax website, http://www.slax.org/ provides help for your problem in its documentation.

If you are unable to boot from your existing disk, you may want to consider downloading and burning a new disk.
