Setting ownership of an external hard drive

Hi,
I'm wondering how to set the ownerhsip of an external drive. So I can write to it, etc...
I'm guessing it's something like
chown /media/sda1 username here.

Hi, and welcome to TSF. I have not had your particular issue myself. I expect you may need to make the changes with root privlages. With my Mandrake I could do it with the GUI that's used for system configuration. It has a manager for media type devices. It would be desirable to make it so all users have read/write access so it's not a problem when you want to work with it in another computer.
