Internet connection
Have installed Redhat 7.1 on a P3 500 and have an external modem which makes a dialing sound and eventually produces the message "no carrier". When I ping a DNS address I get the message "network unreachable". Please advise next step.

Getting dialing sounds is a good sign. Is the phone number correctly entered as well as your username and password for this ISP? I can't believe there would be a conflict with your ISP and Linux. The protocols for dialup are so basic and were established with DOS and UNIX.

Have upgraded to Fedora 2 and connected to internet. However I don't get a dialing sound anymore though I can see the lights on the external modem which indicate a connection. Also have had a problem with a proxy server, but am otherwise okay.
