The Linux Happy Thread

I finally managed to set up a Linux distro on my computer! Everybody was recommending Ubuntu, but sadly the installer has a problem with one DVDRW chipset in the world that is built into about five drive models, and mine is one of them. Accelerated KNOPPIX didn't work, and for some reason neither did the regular KNOPPIX. Eventually, after many tribulations, I managed to install Xandros 3.2 Deluxe and get my wireless card to work. And I'm happy...

I will likely try other distributions in time, but for now I'm just happy that I got any distro to work.

I have all sorts of questions about software (basically suggestions on things like development interfaces, MySQL interaction, etc.) but I'll save those until I've played around with it a little bit more. I like the way this OS is structured, but I'm still getting used to all of the commands.

I'm glad you got it installed and are happy with it. Once you're ready, ask away.
