nvidia driver problem in mdk 9.2
Ok I've ran this question through numerous linux forums, but I cannot for the life of me find a solution so I figured what better place to ask then on the mandrake forum, eh?
anyhow...I ran and installed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496.pkg2.run driver and changed my XF86Config-4 accordingly. The problem is when I change the driver to nvidia and then type startx I get this error: (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initiate the NVIDIA kernel module! (EE) NVIDIA(0): ***Aborting*** (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. If, while root, I type init 5, i get blank screen with some random noise on the bottom. The crazy thing is that I upgraded to this driver just fine in Redhat9 on the same computer. BTW I'm using a e-geforce fx5200, p4 2.8ghz, asus p4s800 mobo, a hyuandai imagquest q770 monitor, and the 2.4.22-21mdksmp kernel. well guys, here's my XFree86.0.log with the nvidia driver: http://lord_sothwi.tripod.com/ Of course that what My log looks like if I install the nvidia driver then restart and boot into init 3. If I boot into init 5 I get the screen with jumbled junk on the bottom. and here's my XFree86.0.log with nv enabled I am able to boot in init 5 with no problems: http://lord_sothwi.tripod.com/XFree8...gNV/index.html |

It means that the driver is looking for screens that don't exist because the monitor config is wrong (usually due to the horizontal and vertical sync being wrong). I'd suggest looking up the specs for your specific monitor on the web and change the horiz and vert sync and then trying to start X, have a feeling this'll fix it for you!
Good Luck and let us know the results!

I finally got it working by adding nvidia to the modules file under /etc and adding Option "NvAGP" "1" to the XF86Config-4 file. Apparantly it wanted to use agpgart. I was able to replay the problem by adding agpgart to the modules file.
I hope this helps others! |

Thats interesting. Sounds like hotplug isn't working, and NvAGP is the proprietary X Frame Buffer, wonder why it works for you and agpgart works for me but not NvAGP, what kernel are you using? You can find out by doing "uname -a" from a shell prompt.
