how do i begin?

I feel i am being really stupid
I have downloaded ubuntu breezy badger and i have got a file marked
ubuntu-5.10-install-i386.iso
i have burned this onto a cd using nero
dragging it into the files to be copied section and then burning

i have then shut the computer down and
started it with the cd in my dvd drive
made sure that it looks at it for a boot

and nothing happens

it simply reverts to my hard disk and loads windows xp
so i tried double clicking on the file above from windows
and it says it doesnt know what to use to open it

on the release notes it simply says press enter when the boot comes up
but i am not getting that

i must be dumb but what do i do
i want to install linux and delete everything that is on the hard drive as i do...
thanks guys
wollix

Are you sure it burned successfully? Have you booted from the DVD drive before, and did it work?

The iso is a cd image. If you just burn that file onto a data cd you wont get anywhere. You need to use Nero to open the file and then burn the cd it contains. You can find that setting under "Disk Image or Saved Project"

Just To Let You Know, You Can Order The Already made CD's Online, for free, that being said, download deepburner, it's a free cd burner and it can burn .iso images...

Well that's no reason to give up. Maybe Nero is buggy. Check out some of the other image burning programs out there

something even better!

I had this problem too at first. what you want to do is go out and google DVD Decrypter. It's a freeware that this individual wrote to decrypt and burn DVD's. Anyways, it does a great job of burning ISO images. Get this, install it, then run with a blank CD-R in.... it's just a matter of telling it where the iso image is and that's it!
