need basic linux programs

Ok i just installed Slackware's version of Linux and how I need some basic linux software to get me going including some windowing software i think. Any suggestinos and locations would be much appriciated

Well the basic programs come with Linux, pre-installed. Some good programs though would be mplayer or xmms, rkhunter, umm....... those are pretty much the basic necessities. What do you like to do because there are plenty of programs for Linux. Like bluefish a source code editor (mostly used by experienced web designers), umm...... a few games.........
