Hardware Upgrading

If I upgrade my PC - new motherboard / ram - will I have to reformat my HD with linux on it? Or will I be able to get around that? Or is it necessary at all? I know nothing, obviously, about this.
Thanks,
Thev

I never have had to. I just changed my motherboard and cpu on my Debian box and it booted and ran fine, just a bunch faster. Athlon 1000 to Athlon 2000+. I have added and changed hardware in Mandrake and Fedora also with little ill effect. Maybe luck maybe not.

Same here, swapped my motherboard and Linux ran fine, faster in fact. Both with LE2005 and FC4.
