IPTables help
ok, so I finally figured out why port forwarding with my Actiontec modem wasn't working: It doesn't actually exist. And the modem runs a barebones linux.
so I telnetted into my modem from my computer using putty and looked around at IPTables. (Had a crappy pass btw, most obvious thing ever) So for port forwarding, I can't use the web config from the modem, I have to telnet in and do some iptables stuff. Unfortunately, I suck at iptables, so can someone help me setup IPtables with the right ports that I want forwarded so that I can use it like I want? When that's done, I'll try to put it in a perl or bash script or something that I can run when the modem is rebooted, so I don't have to do it manually each time, but I might need help with that too. Edit: I also did an iptables -F, but that didn't seem to work.

BTW, I am leaving for a week this afternoon, so if I don't answer for a few days, don't freak out.

Actiontec and Busybox
I've been struggling to master iptables myself, but these websites give some great info, and should be helpful.
This site talks about actually saving data to the modem, since it doesn't come with a file editor: http://www.seattlewireless.net/index.cgi/ActiontecGT701 This site shows some example commands, and from that you can base most of your rules: http://martybugs.net/smoothwall/iptables.cgi Go here and do a page find for 'forwarding' to find port-forwarding examples: http://oceanpark.com/notes/firewall_example.html (very helpful) This site describes iptables, and how to make rules and what not: http://iptables-tutorial.frozentux.n...-tutorial.html (All the information you could ever want on iptables) Hope that helps! |
