Ubuntu ????? opinion please

Alright first off , I know next to nothing about linux. I have been thinking of having a look for a while.
Well I got a cd copy of ubuntu and was going to make a partition on my storage drive and install ubuntu on it but I thought I would throw a post in here and see what the the go is and if it can be dual booted with my XP pro.
Also if I can setup internet and stuff and if there is anything to look out for in general

Cheers

I briefly installed Ubuntu just to take a look at it. It's a well put together distro that builds on Debian, but includes more up to date software. Ubuntu is Gnome based, but there's also Kubuntu which is KDE based. You'll love Debian's Apt-Get if you've ever tried to install programs from source or if you've ever used RPM's.

Overall, I think it's a great distro and seems to have gained a lot of popularity in a short amount of time.
