In's n Out's of Linux Networking
I'm fighting with my Linux systems trying to get them to network, with absolutely no luck. I'm trying a peer-to-peer network, which I can do at will under Windows using the same IP's and everything, and I can have both systems ping each other, also at will. However, I cannot get either one to browse the other, or even to recognize the "presence" of a network. I believe I have all the networking stuff installed and operational, short of the firewall, that is turned off completely, but yet I cannot access another system via network, not even a Windows machine RTG via Samba. I'm using SuSE 9.1 Personnal on both systems, and Windows ME dual-booting on of of these machines. Could this be a SuSE problem? ...or am I doing something wrong? Please walk me through this! This one's whooping me. :poundon:

Do you have any folders in your /home directory set to share? on each Linux system. Navigate to your /home dir. right click on a folder ie documents for instance, click properties, and sharing. You will be prompted for needed packages.

As long as Samba is setup properly and running on both Linux machines, or a Linux machine and a Windows machine, you should be fine.
Please paste your Samba config using the [ code] and [ /code] tags (make sure you don't include the space between the "[" and "code]").

Lemme try to make my "homes" browsable, I just now saw that.
Still, when I go smb:/ in Konqueror, my other machine (running Windows) doesn't respond. Should I not at least be able to get it to show up in Konqueror as a "machine" resource? Strangely, I can just go to My Network Places with my Windows hard disk in this same laptop and browse the same desktop (the one that dual-boots) and browse it all day with no trouble, assuming it is in Windows. With the only thing that's changed being that the laptop's now running just Linux, I'm wondering what the deal is that it can't view outside resources, but I bet it's local to it.

No luck. I still cannot access either a NFS or SMB network. This is what's so agravating to me. I can ping all day, but can't use the network at all.
Samba's smb.conf: Code:
# smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented
# version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SuSE
