Knoppix

I spent the past few hours reading about Knoppix and god knows how many other "flavors" of linux.
I am quite interested in trying knoppix but am still wondering about a few things.
My main PC is running Windows XP and i really dont want to touch that system or installation right now - therefor knoppix live CD sounds great. I also read it comes with a browser and other internet software.
Question basically is: Is it possible to surf the web without actually saving any files to my harddrive ? Maybe i used windows and I.E. too long but doesnt the knoppix broswer (konquerer right?) need to save temporary files anywhere ?
Sorry if my questions seems odd - but reading all these pages didnt answer this question and i basically want to find out if by using knoppix i can let my kids surf the web without having to be worried they install all kinds of malware on my windows PC. Thats why i need to know if knoppix "touches" my hdd at all or not.

Knoppix will run even with the hard drive removed. It will not touch the hard drive without the drive is explicitly mounted to the system. (mounted being accessed) You can create a "temp" folder on the drive where you can store "preferences" so you don't need to go through settings each time you use Knoppix. I fired up my son's Dell laptop using Beatrix, and it took all of three mouse clicks to get online, within one minute from boot.

My System

it will however try to create a swap file somewhere in your free space, but this will have no effect on your machine, and can easily be deleted later.

OK i think i'll give it a try. I just dont want it to mess up my NTFS partition because i just went through several installs and tinkering with a gfx card and now am back to having all my applications installed - and as you know that always takes a couple of hours.
Thanks for the advice....
