Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
I purchased a Windows 7 product key from Digital River and received Windows 7 as an exe which I can burn as an .iso and a Windows 7 Upgrade Disc. What is the best way to upgrade from Xubuntu (linux) to Windows 7? Should I just restart the computer and boot from the upgrade disc? I've found resources from upgrading from XP and Vista to Win7 but no where telling how to upgrade from Linux to Win7

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
Linux concerns an alternate base kernel to that of Windows. You will need to boot from your Windows 7 disc and perform the installation from here.

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
You will most probably have to reformat your hard disk partitions as linux uses ext3 partitions not recognized by Windows. Are you sure you want to do this?
Do an internet search for xxclone. |

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
You cannot 'upgrade' from Xubuntu to Windows 7. You will have to reformat the hard drive, and then run the Windows 7 installation disc. You will also need a full version of Windows 7 - not an upgrade version - unless you have a legally licensed copy of Windows XP or Vista for that computer.

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
hi.
Yes.You will need to boot from a Windows 7 cd, and do either of the following: 1 - install Windows back yo back to Ubuntu. (You will be able to either boot windows or ubuntu everytime you restart your PC.) 2 - Format your drive and only install Windows 7.(you will only be able to boot Windows.) Please let me know if you have any further trouble to install it. |

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
I purchased this laptop with Vista on the computer. However I installed linux on this laptop around 2 months ago. I have a valid license for Vista but it is not installed -- I purchased the upgrade license for windows 7 because I am eligible to do so even if it is not installed on my laptop. Will I run into problems installing from linux to Win7 with the upgrade disc or will I need to reinstall Vista and THEN install Win7? Microsoft is ridiculous.

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
You'd have to reinstall Vista first. If you have enough disk space, you could do a dual boot installation making it possible to choose the operating system you want to use at startup.

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
So windows 7 won't see that Vista was previously installed on this system with Xubuntu installed? I thought maybe Vista was permanently written in the BIOS or something.

Re: Upgrading from Xubuntu to Windows 7
No if you wiped the drive when you installed Ubuntu then Vista is gone, do you have a OEM recovery disk or a full Vista install disk?
