Re: Accesing files on ubuntu

you need to go to your Windows Directory, go to "places" then on "computer" an there you need to go to your windows folder.
The easiest what I do, is run windows and copy all files you want on Ubuntu in your /home directory/*you can create a folder in your Home directory to get it faster in Ubuntu*

Re: Accesing files on ubuntu

you will firts need to mount the volume where you have those windows files.

from the menu bar in Ubuntu select Places / Computer /
look to see if your windows partition is already shown.
If not then click on File System then scroll down and open /media

click on the drive you want to look at. It will either open automatically or you can right click and choose mount.
to remove click and choose umount ( if you are ever looking at a flash disk or removable drive this is important if you don't want to lose any information.)

If you want to share files between XP & Ubuntu .. you might be better off using gparted magic to create a FAT32 partition somewhere on one of your hard drives.

Thank you for replying :-).
I had done that before posting my question on ths forum.I was not able to view all the files.only files like recycler, system volume information were visible.
I followed the following steps and i could view all the files!
1. :/$ sudo fdisk -l
it showed the partition table.I got to know where my ntfs filesystemis.
2./$ cd /mnt
created a directory in this directory so i could mount my ntfs filesystem on this directory
3.:/$ sudo mount-t ntfs /dev/sda1 /mnt/windrive -o "umask=022"

mounted my filesystem and also set the umask to 022.(my ntfs system was present on /dev/sda1).

4.now to see the files in gui.
go to places->home->/filebrowser->mnt->windrive
