ibook g3 500 Ubuntu 9.04 ppc - vlc errors

Trying to open any MP3 file causes VLC to have an illegal operation error.
Then it crashes.

These are readouts from the terminal launch.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

In fact vlc will crash when playing any media file.

I have reinstalled it fully btw. Clean.

Aside: I also cannot play DIVX/XVID files at all. In any player. Is there a way to get those codecs to play on powerpc ubuntu?

Can I recompile codecs for the powerpc platform? I think they use x86 instructions the way they come...?

Sorry? I used Synaptic once and Terminal APT-GET INSTALL twice. Full removal through terminal and Synaptic too.

On what media? XUbuntu 9.04 PPC

you don't have to worry about installation more like look at the "extra's", setting defaults and whatever.
