OS: Windows 7 and Kubuntu Dual Boot
|
Hey, I'm new to TSF so please excuse any unintentional mistakes I make whilst posting here. I apologise in advance for any such mistakes I make.
But onto my problem - on my laptop (HP 530, 1.86GHz CPU, 1.5GB RAM) I am dual-booting Windows 7 and Kubuntu 9.04. When I load Kubuntu it runs fine until I login, where it loads to desktop, but immediately crashes and shows my background (the KDE default) in black and white with an error box saying that it has crashed and asking me to file a report (which I can't do because it has crashed... ). When I login with IceWM (this is what I'm using now) it runs fine, and I can access all of my files/programs. What I am wondering is if there is any way to get KDE to stop crashing, or if I'm going to have to back-up my files and reinstall (which I would rather not do).

Re: Kubuntu 9.04 crashes on login
You shouldn't need to reinstall. Try moving your ~/.kde directory to something like ~/dot-kde then login to a KDE session.

Re: Kubuntu 9.04 crashes on login
hey, thanks for your help, it got kubuntu to load in KDE, but the windows no longer have title bars and the desktop background has gone checked white and grey, like the "transparent" background in image editing programs. any idea why/how to fix?
