Apache on openSuSE running in VM

Hey guys!

I have a LAMP set up in my virtualized linux environment.

I can browse to my MediaWiki fine using the IP of the VM. However, when I try to access from an outside network, such as at work, I cannot gain any access.

I am using NAT on the VM, I have tried adding the IP and Port 80 in the Port Forwarding Settings of my Router, but it keeps saying "Server IP must be a LAN IP"...will not let me add it!

I also have set up port forwarding in VMware for the IP of the Virtual Machine, still no go.

I have turned firewall off/on, no changes.

Please let me know if you need further detail and thank you!

Hi,

Does your router support NATing? That could be a problem right there. Have a look at this from EtremeTech.

Cheers!

You can only forward to an IP on your network. For example if your internal network is 192.168.1.xxx, then you can only forward to one of those IP's. So if your VM Server is handing out IP's in a different range, then you won't be able to forward to it. In VM you have the option to use your network DCHP to get IP's or you can have it manage it internally. When I've run VM, I always allow the existing DHCP to handle the IP assignments so I can view the VM's on my local network. My guess is, when you say that you can get to your mediawiki using the IP, it's from the box that's running the VM, correct? Take a look at your IP scheme, because that's where you're running in to issues.
