Network Connect from Centos server to Vista desktop

Hello

I own own a few Desktops and can run them all from my main Vista PC via Desktop Connection.

I just setup an RC server with CENTOS Linux OS and have spen a few days trying to find out how to run it from my Vista PC as well.

Other than installing a Virtual Server on Vista I have tried eveything I can think of.

I can't even network the file sharing either as each PC is not finding each other.

They are both connected with cable directly to the same router.

Although great with Windows programing Linux I haven't had much to do with at all up to now.

Does anyone have any ideas please.

Cheers

Re: Network Connect from Centos server to Vista desktop

Hi,

Sorry for my lack of thinking at the moment but what type of server is an RC, I can only think of a Release Candidate? I would start with basic networking. Make sure that you can ping one computer from another, and that you can ping the router. From there I would check the firewall on the server to make sure that you can connect with the correct ports and make sure that they ports line up.

Let me know how that goes and if you are still having issues.

Cheers!

Sorry I have been away.

An RC is a Rack server that runs with sucsi HD in raid. Basically it's a proper server and not a desktop PC of any kind.

Hi,

Sorry I have been away from this question, and it has slipped my mind what the question was? Are you trying to share files between a windows and linux computer, or is it something else?

Cheers!

I want to be operating the server from my desktop pc. It's for running some of my websites on.

I think I might have to istall cPanel and do it that way.

Re: Network Connect from Centos server to Vista desktop

Hi,

Ok you have a couple of different options. One is to do it that way with CPanel. Another is to handle it from a ssh connection. I don't know how much you use commands but that would work too. I preffer commands over a CPanel or other programs, as it gives me complete control to my box.

Cheers!

You can also try installing something like Webmin which is a nice utility for administering the linux box without having to run a gui on the OS.
