I have been weening to do some DJ ing on my laptop so I downloaded mixxx which I have used before (on windows and Fedora) and installed it from the .pl file but It requires a file called libsndfile.a, does anyone know what this file is?

I tried to research this myself, and came up empty-handed. I wonder if it's something that would be in the download, and was corrupted during the download. Perhaps try the download again? to make sure you got it all. Also if you've ran this application on another system, maybe you can find the file on that machine, and copy it to this one?
After this post, I googled and came up with this. http://kmt.hku.nl/~pieter/SOFT/IRIX/LIBSNDFILE/

This is the first time I used the .tar.gz file to install it. The rpm worked fine on my old Fedora box and the windoze version worked fine. Maybe I can use that spiffy new rpm2targz command that came with slackware 10.
I did some reaserching and apparently libsndfile is a audio codec thingy. Type just libsndfile into google, there is a couple of links to linux audio sites that have a download, I tried installing it on a fresh slack 10 box then installing mixxx and still no libsndfile.a though.

I'm trying to install Linux on my son's Dell Insperion 1100, and having much difficulty. But in the Mandrake 10 install I attempted I saw the Libsndfile.a named. So I know it exists there.
