Ubuntu PPC issue
1. 500mhz/256mb/Ibook G3 500 dual usb
2. Running latest Xubuntu w/blackbox window manager. 3. Sound used to work fine with LISTEN (came preinstalled). 4. Tried audacious. 4.1 Uninstalled listen as audacious worked. 4.2 Sound no longer works. No app will playback sound. Thought it was a pulseaudio problem. Reinstalled. Nothing. 5. Installed decibel. Nothing. 6. Tried VLC (crashes every time for ppc. No movies or music here) 7. Tried mplayer. No sound 8. Tried getting alsamixer. Checked levels. All fine. 9. Tried other mixers. All told me everything is fine. 10. When I backspace and the system realizes there is nothing to delete...SOUND DOES COME OUT. Full blast "Cannot do this beep" warning. I have now uninstalled Decibel, Audacious, VLC, Mplayer,Kplayer, SMplayer. What did I do wrong? Is a library that listen uses essential to sound on this machine? Thats all I can muster....

Re: Ubuntu PPC issue
This seems to be a driver related issue, but I don't know the model of the [integrated] sound card. Don't uninstall any media players, they aren't the problem. Can you give me the output of running the command lspci in the terminal?

Quote:
I uninstalled them mostly to get a cleaner slate, not because they are at fault. Also for the space. The thing only has 10gb. THIS IS THE EXACT MODEL: http://www.apple-history.com/body.php?page=gallery&model=ibook_dual_usb&sort=date&performa=off&order=ASC UPDATE: I reinstalled listen and aqualung. Neither worked. I then idly loaded xfce desktop. I loaded up the alsa mixer and found the main channels muted. Unmuting them produced no new sound through the music players.

Re: Ubuntu PPC issue
pulseaudio is an audio server, not a driver. It seems that pulseaudio is having trouble communicating with your audio card, i.e. it is missing the correct driver. Hopefully the lspci report will describe the actual components of the laptop better so that we can find the suitable driver.
