Basics of networking
I'm a Linux noob trying to network and share two machines in peer to peer over a crossover LAN cable, and while I have gotten them to where I can ping each other all day, I cannot access the contents of the other machine. How do I go about getting into one machine from another? On both I'm running SuSE 9.1 Personnal, and am running Win ME on one of them. I have removed the firewalls from them both temporarily thinking the firewall could be trapping my requests, but that gave me no change. I can't even run Win ME on one and use Samba to access it, but can run Windows on them both and access them that way (which defeats the purpose, since Windows is on a completely different hard disk, and I can only put one in this machine). What must I do to share material from each machine from Linux and then access it on the other since I have the NICs configured?

Just so I'm clear, can you access the linux drive from the ME machine, or not?If it's just that you can't access the windows me from the Linux machine, then it's a samba issue. If you can't access the Linux drive from the ME box, then it's a configuration issue. Is it possible you're using a 3Com NIC in the Linux box?
