X-Window-System & Gnome's KDM?

Hey all,

I finally got Linux Server installed and running successfully on my first server. I have no network connectivity right now, so I can install a GUI, but when I do, I have a question:

It is my understanding that X-Window-System comes with a login manager. If this is correct, then I don't need to install Gnome's KDM manager right? Thats just wasting needless space?

If not, does anyone know the sudo command to get Gnome KDM. I know the Gnome-core code, but I don't know the Gnome Kdm code.

Also, I have to download "TCP Viewer v2.82" onto these Servers. I have done a search for the correct get-apt format, but I cannot find it. Does anyone know the sudo command to install this software?

Re: X-Window-System & Gnome's KDM?

Hi,

You are seems to have the most of it but there is some things that you are a little off on. There isn't a Gnome KDM. There is Gnome Desktop Manager (GDM), and a KDE Desktop Manager (KDM). I do know that you area able to change the init level from 1 to 5 so that you don't have a login screen.

As for installing programs you would use the command
Code:
sudo apt-get
I don't know of a TCP viewing program for linux unfortunately.

Cheers!
