Access to media server outside of network?
I just finished up creating my media server (finally). Here's basically what it's built on:
Hardware: Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop (hopefully the link doesn't die this time). OS: Ubuntu 9.04 (Yes, I'm using the desktop edition. I didn't have a copy of the server edition, and my main computer is out of commission for a while so I couldn't download it. And I couldn't wait 4-10 weeks to get the DVD from Canonical). Frontend: Jinzora2. Backend (I guess?): LAMP Linux Apache MySQL PHP/Perl/Python ^All the latest versions^ The server runs extremely well. I've streamed some of my music already, and it sounds extremely crisp and clear, and there weren't any cuts or random stops in the playback (like I normally experience with streaming). The problem is, I want to be able to stream my music onto my iPod touch or onto a different computer when I'm away. But I can't do that, because I can't connect using my-ip-address/jinzora2 like I can do inside my network, because that IP is private. Does anyone know how to stream music of my media server onto a computer or something off of my network? |

Re: Access to media server outside of network?
Hi,
I would watch this video. It will show you how to set up a dyndns name that can connect to your server and then you can stream the music outside your network that way. Cheers!
