EEK! command to start Display Resolution applet

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 and set the Screen Resolution to 640x480 to see what it would look like... Not good... Now I am UNABLE to access the System drop-down menu to access the Display Resolution command...

So, what is the command line command to launch the Display Resolution applet?

-or-

How can I reset my screen resolution from the command line to 1024x600...

I'm running a Dell Mini 10v which has a 1024x600 maximum resolution...

Thanks!

Re: command to start Display Resolution applet

Hi,

I don't know how familiar you are with Terminal but you can fix your screen resolution I believe with this command.
Code:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
If that doesn't work I can work on a different solution for you.

Cheers!

Re: command to start Display Resolution applet

I had tried several variations of "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" without success before posting here... I kept getting a sequence of questions regarding the keyboard, but nothing for the screen... I poked around looking for answers some more and finally found a reference to the ~/.config/monitors.xml file which I was able to edit and reset to 1024x600.

Bottom line: THIS PROBLEM IS SOLVED.

Next, the whole reason that I was experimenting is that on my Dell Mini 10v with 1024x600, I keep encountering screens that are configured for 1024x768 display -- and so I don't see the "bottom" of the display... and cannot scroll. Dialogs are particularly obnoxious in this respect. What I REALLY want to do is to somehow "scale" the display so that I can see @@@x768 -- i.e., ALL the lines in the display... OR, find some way so that I *always* can scroll vertically. Do you have any suggestions?

THANKS in advance -- and THANKS for getting back to me on the previous issue so quickly...

View 768 lines on my Dell Mini 10v - Possible?

A while back I saw a posting for Mini 9's running as Hackintosh OS/X... and that system had a "scaling" property that one could set. Is there anything like this for Ubuntu 9.04?

Re: View 768 lines on my Dell Mini 10v - Possible?

Hi,

Here is what I am seeing from blogs about your computer. It would appear that your computer has a the maximum resolution on the Mini 10v display is 1024x576. So the fact that you are getting 1024x600 isn't a suprise but you most likely won't be able to get 768 lines on your computer. Sorry.

I merged these threads because they are essentially the same topic and the issue.

Cheers!
