[SOLVED] Installing Solaris after Linux
Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience on installing Solaris on a machine running Ubuntu. I haven't really tried, but I'd like to and I figure if I start with help, it'd be better than screwing everything up trying to fix it and then seeking help :-)

Re: Installing Solaris after Linux
Hi,
I haven't installed Solaris after linux on any of my machines. That being said, as long as you install it to its own partition then you shouldn't have any problems. I don't think that any information would jump from one partition to another. Plus they run on very similar file systems. Cheers!

Re: Installing Solaris after Linux
Well, the problem I'm running into is the MBR or whatever. Master Boot something. I've heard that whenever you install one o/s and then install another it messes with it and causes problems, like not being able to boot into Linux again... which would be a problem.

Re: Installing Solaris after Linux
Hi,
I have just had to deal with that problem myself. I found that it is really easy to make GRUB the default bootloader and figure out how to make sure that you can connect to your other partitions. So I would give it a shot and see what happens. The worst thing that can happen is that it doesn't work and you have to wipe the partition. Cheers!

Heh, I hope you're right... I'll try it tomorrow and hope I can still get online to let you all know if it messed up :-)
