Networking problem in Ubuntu
Hey Folks.
I am trying to network my two Linux Ubuntu computers and not having much luck. I have a 5 port network switch and the everything is hooked up to network cards, that are installed in both machines. However, I can not get online, when I plug the Internet Ethernet cable into the network switch. I have been to network manager and set one machine to DHCP and the other to the other options, but nothing happens. On the part where I have the option to enter IP , Subnet Mask and router mask ,, well I do not know which numbers to put in there. I know the subnet mask number and I know the IP address that I got from my ISP. Have no idea what the router mask is. Should I not have to give each machine it is own unique IP address on the network?. Here is the switch I am using. Linksys by Cisco Workgroup Switch / 10/100 / 5 port model number EZXS55W http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/products/EZXS55W Here is the Network cards I am using . Network Everywhere Network Card / Model number NC100U-WM I did go into the terminal and ran the SUDO IFCONFIG I am not sure exactly what the info is telling me and exactly which numbers are the crucial numbers. Hope I have given enough info and I hope I can get this working,, I am going bald trying

Re: Networking problem in Ubuntu
Hi,
How do you have your vista machine plugged in? I would connect the Ubuntu boxes the exact same way. Also, are you running DHCP or are you giving your vista box a static ip? If you want you can post your ifconfig info up here and we can take a look at it for you. Lets start with that and go from there. Cheers!
