[SOLVED] Installing Tilda
So I'm trying to install Tilda on Ubuntu, which isn't going so well. I was following this guide http://phorolinux.com/how-to-install...sy-gibbon.html
The problem seems to be something with Flex. I can't get it to install correctly. I tried it from the synaptic package manager but it can't find crap so that is out of the question. I've installed this on Arch Linux before but i used pacman and it went very smoothly. If i could do that with Ubuntu that would be nice but of course i can't find pacman either. Here is the results of what i have done, perhaps I'm just doing something wrong, but i don't know what it is and i need help on this one. @Ubuntu:~$ sudo apt-get build-dep tilda [sudo] password for: Reading package lists... Re: Installing Tilda
Hi,
I would start by finding the programs flex and lex, then see if you can role them into your system. You might need to role them yourself or just install them through synaptic. Cheers!

Re: Installing Tilda
Well that is where the problem is. I can't use Synaptic because it can't find anything. And from what i have seen about Flex is that it is out of date and that it has been replaced. Unfortuanately, there is no mention of what replaced it.
All I'm finding is ways to install Flex that i have already tried and aren't working.

Re: Installing Tilda
I don't see why flex would be out dated. What's in your /etc/sources.list file? What version of Ubuntu are you running?
You probably won't find pacman for an Ubuntu system as that is a separate package manager. Having multiple package managers sounds like it would cause many conflicts.

Re: Installing Tilda
It is the latest version of Ubuntu, v. 9.04 i believe. I'll have to look in that file to see what is there, currently running Win7 so i can't exactly do it now.

Re: Installing Tilda
OK, sorry it took a couple of days to check that file.
Unfortunately, I don't have that file at all. Doesn't exist. Which I take it isn't good. I've still not had any success finding/installing flex, is there some special command i need to run to get it using apt?

Re: Installing Tilda
Ok, I got Flex to install, I guess. Of course it needs like four other programs before it can be configured and then those programs need other programs. I am starting to get frustrated with this so I am quiting before I really mess something up. I don't want Tilda that bad to go through all of this crap.

Re: Installing Tilda
Well, I didn't follow my own advice and kept working at it. After who knows how many hours i've been trying to get this program to install I ended up giving up on it and installed Yakuake.
One command and it installed like I expected it to. Done in 2 minutes. And i actually like Yakuake better, because it actually works! Thread solved.
