[SOLVED] Cannot install Linux

Hi, I just downloaded the free version of Mandriva Linux and when I mount the ISO it gave me an option to install, so I clicked that and it said I had to reboot. So I did, nothing happened. Apparently I have to boot into the CD to run this, but it's and ISO and it wont work. I can't burn it to a disc because it's to big and won't fit. If I put it on my iPod would I be able to run it from that? How can I install this without booting into a CD?

Hi,

I would like you to have a look at this. All ISO's should fit on the a cd/dvd. If you try and put the iso on your ipod it would boot the way that you need it to. I am curious as to what size the iso file is, too.

Cheers!

*legit* ISO help

Hey, the folks at Alt. Computing didn't seem to like my Linux thread so I'm going to make this short and sweet.
I downloaded linux (from their site) and was fed an ISO. When I mounted it it said to restart into linux, I pressed that, nothing. So, how can I boot into an ISO without it being on a CD (as it's too large to fit). Could I put it on my iPod and run it from that?

Re: *legit* ISO help

You have to burn the ISO to a disk with a program like Image burn so that it is expanded into the Linux OS if it is larger then a CD perhaps a DVD is needed, what version of Linux is it?

Re: *legit* ISO help

I don't have a DVD burner.

It's Mandriva Linux.

Re: *legit* ISO help

I believe the site gives you a ISO, which is can fit on a CD. You're not suppose to extract the ISO's contents.

Re: Cannot install Linux

Dark_Wolf, I burn Linux ISOs to regular 80-minute CDs all the time. 702mb will fit if you burn the ISO as an image instead of normal data.

Try one of these freeware programs:
Free ISO Burner
ISO Image Burner

You're probably right, I'll try that when I can.
